What’s a Work Exchange

I found out about work exchanges in 2018 when I was in Montreal Canada staying at a hostel for a weekend.

I met people from all over the world & they were volunteering and staying there for free? WHAT? Live for freeeee?

Check out these sites!

Workaway - Workaway is a platform that connects travelers with hosts around the world, allowing them to exchange their skills for accommodation. Travelers can volunteer in various settings, such as hostels, eco-projects, or community initiatives, in exchange for a place to stay and sometimes meals. It’s a great way to experience different cultures and meet new people while traveling on a budget!

Worldpackers - Same concept as workaway, where travelers can connect with hosts around the world to volunteer in exchange for food and accommodation. Hosts can include individuals, families, or organizations that need help with various tasks, such as farming, hospitality, teaching, or community projects. It’s a way for travelers to immerse themselves in local cultures, gain new experiences, and save money while exploring different places.

YogaTrade - an online platform that connects yoga teachers and wellness professionals with opportunities around the world. It focuses on wellness-related jobs, including teaching yoga retreats, workshops, and events, as well as other holistic and wellness services. Members can find positions in various settings, such as resorts, studios, or wellness centers, often in beautiful locations. It’s a great way for yoga practitioners to travel, share their passion, and find meaningful work in the wellness industry.

CoolWorks - a job board that specializes in seasonal and temporary work opportunities, primarily in outdoor and recreational settings. It connects job seekers with employers in national parks, resorts, summer camps, and other adventure-focused environments. Many positions involve working in stunning locations and provide opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to gain unique experiences. It's particularly popular among people looking for summer jobs, gap year adventures, or seasonal work that allows for exploration and travel

HippoHelp - I have never booked work on this site, its just like the first 2 sites mentioned ^ it’s a platform that connects travelers with hosts who offer free room and board in exchange for volunteer work. It’s similar to other work-exchange programs, allowing travelers to help out with various tasks—like farming, gardening, or hospitality—in a wide range of locations. The focus is on creating a community atmosphere, and it often attracts those looking for more personalized experiences while traveling. It's a great way to meet new people and immerse yourself in local cultures!

TrustedHousesitters - is a platform that connects pet owners with travelers looking for a place to stay in exchange for caring for their pets. It allows pet owners to find reliable sitters who can look after their pets and home while they are away, and it provides sitters with free accommodation in various locations. It’s a great option for pet lovers who want to travel without the costs of accommodation, while also giving peace of mind to pet owners!

Australian Work Visa - US Citizens Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462)

Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old (or 18-35 for some countries). You can work in any job, but you're limited to working for the same employer for no more than six months. This allows for diverse work experiences. You can enter and leave Australia as many times as you like while the visa is valid.

New Zealand Work Visa - Very similar to Australia’s visa but for 6 Months not 1 year!

These are sites I have used personally to travel with. If you have more questions and what to go deeper, I’d love to help ya :)
